Ashley Ridge Coach Charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor
CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WTAT-TV) – The girls head basketball coach at Ashley Ridge High School has been arrested and charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.
The incidents reportedly happened between September of 2006 and November of 2006 while the suspect, 38-year-old Tron Grant, worked as the Student Concern Specialist at Baptist Hill High School.
In a verbal statement to detectives with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, the victim said when she was 15-year-old, she went to talk to Grant while in a “vulnerable state” and said Grant “took advantage of the situation.”
According to an affidavit, Grant picked the victim up from her home and had sexual intercourse with her in the vehicle. On another occasion, Grant took the girl to his apartment and had sexual intercourse in his bed.
The information from the victim was corroborated through an unnamed witness.
In an incident report from the Sheriff’s Office, the victim told officers she originally didn’t want to report the incident because she was scared at the time but wanted to report it now.
The victim told officers she has since attended some programs to help her recover from the incident, but she did not want to pursue charges at this time.
Grant was given a $25,000 bond and released of his duties at Ashley Ridge High School, according to a spokeswoman with Dorchester District 2.
