CHARELSTON, SC (WTAT-TV) – Democratic Congressmen Jim Clyburn and Joe Cunningham are expected to introduce a new bill next week which would extend the background check process to own a new gun.

Law enforcement would then have more time to determine that the gun buyer is allowed to purchase the weapon.

This process could have prevented the gunman of the 2015 Emanuel shooting from purchasing the gun used to kill nine people.

The congressmen say they are confident the House will approve the bill.
