CARTA Operating Emergency Services Wednesday
CHARLESTON, SC (WTAT-TV) — With a mandatory evacuation in place, CARTA will continue its emergency services Wednesday.
The transportation provider will operate a 14-stop loop through the Charleston peninsula.
Riders looking to evacuate to area shelters will be taken to the Charleston County Public Services building.
The county will then take passengers to shelters based on occupancy.
Shelters for Charleston residents are based in Berkeley and Dorchester counties. They will not open in Charleston County due to possible wind speeds of 130+ mph.
If you need help getting to a shelter, leaders say you should locate bus stops with the posted blue hurricane evacuation signs.

CARTA’s emergency service will operate until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday. It will likely not be in operation Thursday.
If you cannot get to shelter on your own, use this time to board a CARTA bus for transportation to a shelter.
