Celebrate Turtles with the South Carolina Aquarium Memorial Day Weekend
CHARLESTON, S.C. – May 21, 2018 – The South Carolina Aquarium today announces World Turtle Celebration May 26-28, Memorial Day weekend. From special activities to turtle-themed shows and animal enrichment, guests are invited to learn about the many species of turtles that call South Carolina home, from the mountains to the sea.
Five interactive activity stations will be set up from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. daily and will feature a different species of turtle found in the Lowcountry. Guests can participate in activities like decorating their own reusable bag (while supplies last) and watch turtles paint a masterpiece. Turtle art will also be available for purchase in the gift shop with proceeds supporting animal care at the South Carolina Aquarium.
Additionally, several of the Lowcountry’s sea turtle teams—Folly Beach Turtle Watch, Isle of Palms Turtle Team, Kiawah Island Turtle Patrol, Seabrook Island Turtle Patrol—will join the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources at the South Carolina Aquarium on Saturday, May 26. Each team and SCDNR will have educational table displays set up to share information about the critical work they do to protect sea turtles and their nests.
The South Carolina Aquarium, Charleston’s No. 1 family attraction, features thousands of aquatic animals from river otters and sharks to loggerhead turtles in more than 60 exhibits representing the rich biodiversity of South Carolina from the mountains to the sea. Dedicated to promoting education and conservation, the Aquarium also presents sweeping views of the Charleston harbor along with interactive exhibits and programs for visitors of all ages.
