Charleston County Parks host 5 dog events in September

Mount Pleasant, James Island and North Charleston, SC [PRESS RELEASE] – Charleston County Parks are going to the dogs in September! The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) is dedicating five days this month to dog-friendly events.

On Thursday, Sept. 7, from 4:30 p.m. to sunset, Splash Island Waterpark at Palmetto Islands County Park in Mount Pleasant will host its very first Yappy Hour. Beverages will be available to the owners while the dogs have fun splashing around the park. Advance admission is available at CharlestonCountyParks.com for $8; on-site admission, if available, will be $10 per dog.

Then on Saturday, Sept. 9, Splash Island Waterpark will open once again to allow dogs to take a dip at Dog Day Afternoon. Sessions will be from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and from 1-3 p.m. Tickets are limited and are $8 in advance or $10 at the gate, if available. Owners get in free with their pets. Pooches have one more chance to enjoy the waters at Dog Day Afternoon at Whirlin’ Waters Adventure Waterpark on Sunday, Sept. 10. From 12-5 p.m., dogs can play in this waterpark located at North Charleston Wannamaker County Park. Tickets are $12 in advance (at CharlestonCountyParks.com) and $15 at the gate.

Then, Yappy Hour returns Thursday, Sept. 14 to the dog park at James Island County Park! This social event will feature live music and beverages for purchase at the park’s off-leash dog park. On Sept. 14, live music will be provided by Dallas Baker from 4 p.m. until sunset. The final Yappy Hour of the year will feature Soul Fish Duo from 4 p.m. to sunset on Thursday, Oct. 12. Yappy Hour is free with admission to James Island County Park ($2 per person).

Finally, North Charleston Wannamaker County Park hosts Bark in the Park on Saturday, Sept. 23! Featuring something for everyone including pet exhibits, experts, entertainment and more, the event runs from 12-4 p.m. Dogs will get great exercise enjoying Wannamaker’s off-leash dog park while their owners enjoy beverages for sale and live music from Sunflowers and Sin. Bark in the Park also features a pet parade (costumes encouraged), contests, and Swift Paws lure chasing. Admission is $5 per person at the gate.
