Charleston PD Applicant Dies After Completing Agility Test
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WTAT-TV/AP) — A man trying out to become an officer with the Charleston Police Department has died after finishing a physical agility test.
Charleston County Deputy Coroner Kelly Kraus said 35-year-old Jeffrey Tant of Summerville was pronounced dead at Roper Hospital Tuesday morning.
The police department says Tant completed the test and then asked to be taken to a hospital.
That test includes bench presses, situps, a 300-meter dash, pushups and a nearly two-mile (three-kilometer) run.
Tant’s official cause of death is currently unknown, but an autopsy has been been scheduled according to the coroner’s office.
