Coast Guard Officials Rescue Stranded Boaters on Capers Island
DEWEES ISLAND, SC (WTAT-TV) — U.S. Coast Guard officials say two boaters were found stranded on Capers Island near the Isle of Palms well after midnight Thursday.
A supervisor with Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch said a call was made about a boat in distress shortly after 12:15 a.m.
After searching the area, the boaters were located in the area of Dewees Island and Capers Island around 3:00 a.m.
Officials say their boat was disabled and drifted onto the beach.
Several agencies responded to the distress call, including fire and rescue teams from Dewees Island, Isle of Palms and Charleston County.
Coast Guard officials airlifted the two stranded boaters to Johns Island Executive Airport to be picked up.
Both were able to walk away without injury.
