Department of Revenue Agents Arrest Upstate Cellphone Store Owner
RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WTAT-TV) — The owner and operator of an upstate cellphone store has been arrested by agents with the South Carolina Department of Revenue.
According to a press release, Oshamar Williams Sr. was arrested early Thursday for operating without a valid license.
Because of unpaid business taxes totaling more than $24,000, the Department of Revenue revoked Williams’ retail license for Cellular City in June of 2017.
Williams was told to close his business and cease sales operations, but he reportedly continued to make sales without a valid retail license.
Williams is being held at the Alvin S Glenn Detention Center. If convicted, he faces fines up to $200 and/or up to 30 days in jail.
“The SCDOR is committed to the fair administration of tax laws,” the agency said. “By taking enforcement action against non compliant taxpayers, the Department seeks to prevent unfairly increasing the tax burden on those who do comply.”
