E-Cig Explosion Risk
CHARLESTON,SC (WTAT-TV) – E-Cigarettes are marketed as a safer alternative to smoking, but even though you don’t need and actual lighter to light one up, FOX Correspondent, Meredith Wood, explains how the saying, ‘where there is smoke, there’s fire,’ can still apply.
Two people have died as a result of malfunctioning e-cigarettes. This brings the potential dangers of these devices specifically explosions and small fires back to the public’s attention.
Keith Bryant, U.S. Fire Administrator, explained that the main concern is the battery itself from the safety perspective. Lithium ion batteries generate power and also a lot of heat.
The U.S. Fire Administration’s report indicates the shape and casing around the battery may be increasing the risk of fires or explosions.
