AWENDAW, SC (BRODIE HART, WTAT-TV) — Emergency response teams were responding to reports of a truck flipped over in a creek connecting to the Wando River early Monday morning.

The incident happened in the area of Guerins Bridge Road and Winwood Farm Road in Awendaw. When emergency crews arrived to the scene they found a white Mazda truck in the creek.

A portion of that truck was submerged in the water, but officials could not confirm if the driver was still inside because they couldn’t see inside the vehicle’s cab.

The accident left a wide path of flattened reeds and mud where the truck left the road and ultimately flipped over into that creek area.

Awendaw-McClellanville Consolidated Fire District and Charleston County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene of that accident and a tow truck was able to pull that truck out of the mud shortly after 8:00 a.m.

Once the truck was pulled back onto the road, officials were able to confirm there was no one inside.

An investigation is now underway as to what happened to the driver and how that accident occurred.
