Ferry Offering Commuter Rides During Traffic Woes
DANIEL ISLAND, SC (BRODIE HART, WTAT-TV) — If you are looking for a way to avoid sitting in heavy traffic, perhaps you’ll consider hopping on a boat? A ferry service is offering commuters another option to get from Daniel Island to downtown Charleston via waterway.
The Charleston Water Taxi recently added a new route from Daniel Island to the Charleston Maritime Center.
More than a dozen people were already signed up for Wednesday’s service by 7:00 a.m.

It’s just a 30-minute ferry ride from either direction and offers an alternative route for those looking to avoid the Wando Bridge backup.
Captain Colby Hollifield said they’ve added time from downtown at 7:00 a.m. & Daniel Island at 7:30 a.m. and again at 5:00 p.m. from downtown & 5:30 p.m. to Daniel Island.
There is also the possibility that the ferry service will expand to additional route times if the Wando Bridge remains closed for some time.
“We’re geared up to run back and forth with the water taxi between Mount Pleasant and downtown every day,” he explained. “So adding a duplicate route to Daniel Island is a little challenging. So we’re waiting to see what DOT comes up with this afternoon before we announce any expanded routes,” he said.
