Fisher House Will Provide Housing for Families of Veterans Receiving Medical Treatment
CHARLESTON, SC (WTAT-TV) — Military members and their families will soon have some much-needed help. There will be a grand opening for the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center Fisher House Thursday morning.
Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg is expected to join several other leaders during a ceremony which run from 10:00 a.m. until noon.
The Fisher House is a 16 room facility that provides free housing. The building will feature a library and laundry facility. Suites will feature a kitchen, dining room and a living room.
“We tried to create a warm an inviting environment [and] made sure that every room is wheelchair accessible and that families have the conveniences they find at home,” said Fisher House President David Coker. “It’s going to be able to 16 families on any given night in one of the most beautiful locations in the world.”
Families will be able to stay at the Fisher House while veterans receive treatment at the VA Hospital.
There are Fisher House locations nationwide but this is the first location in South Carolina.
