Flu Infections Spike Across the United States
CHARLESTON, SC (WTAT-TV) – You might think that flu season should be slowing down, but think again.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, as this season’s nasty strain grips the country, flu infections are spiking across the United States.
Thirty-two states report that they are getting hit hard. Since October 1st, the CDC estimates that there has been 26-million illnesses, 12-million medical visits, 347-thousand hospitalizations and up to 31-thousand deaths.
CDC health officials say that the flu vaccination is the most effective way to avoid attaining the virus. The company recently released a study that shows the flu vaccine is safe for pregnant women.
According to the South Carolina State Department of Health, there has been a decrease in flu activity as of March 1st.
