CHARLESTON, SC (FOX 24 SPORTS) — Wednesday was signing day for 44 athletes with the Charleston County School District, but there was a certain reason for celebration for one Lowcountry senior.

Putting pen to paper was Academic Magnet senior, Nick Price.

After overcoming brain cancer, Price will be going to play soccer at Averett University in Virginia.

“I had no doubt that this was going to happen. I told my dad from day one that I’m going to beat it and I’m going to come out helping other people and I’m going to be stronger than I ever was before,” he said. “That’s exactly what I did.”

Price fell in love with the game in 2nd grade – quickly rising to the top of the roster. But he was sidelined in 2013 when he was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor.

The life-threatening diagnosis didn’t keep him off the field for long – he made his high school team just a week later and used his love of soccer in his journey to recovery.
