Girls on the Run of Charleston Fall Season Registration Now Open
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC — Girls on the Run of Charleston, a physical activity-based, positive youth development program that inspires girls in 3rd through 8th grade to be joyful, healthy and confident, has opened registration for the fall season.
The volunteer-led program brings together teams of 8-15 girls for a ten-week program that encourages personal development, team building and connection to the community.
“Throughout the season, our girls learn so many skills that will help them in school and in their future.” said coach Jessica Turner, Alston-Bailey Elementary School. “My favorite part about this program is that all of our girls are unique and they might not have had the chance to meet and be friends otherwise. I see our older girls mentoring our younger girls and it is a joy to witness! I encourage every school to have a GOTR program!”
The program has inspired girls in the greater Charleston area for six seasons and has impacted the lives of over 600 girls.
This season, Girls on the Run will be offered at 15 locations. Each team will meet two times a week for 75-90 minutes after school and participate in research-based lessons that use dynamic discussions and fun running games to teach life skills.
The season will culminate in a 5k event that brings together family, friends and community members to celebrate the girls’ growth throughout the season.
That 5K will be held on Saturday, November 17th at North Charleston High School, where the girls and their Running Buddies will enjoy a scenic course around Park Circle.
The program fee for the Fall 2018 season is $150, and scholarship funding is available to those who qualify. The program fee includes registration for the end-of-season 5k event, a shirt, water bottles, and a healthy snack at each practice.
More information about the program and registration can be found on the Girls on the Run of Charleston website at www.gotrcharleston.org.
