Hero of the Lowcountry: Farrah Hoffmire and HEART
CHARLESTON, SC (WTAT-TV) — Support and activities for individuals with special needs is usually non-existent once they reach adulthood. Charleston is lucky to have HEART, an inclusive arts community which provides music, art and theatre experiences for adults with special needs.
HEART was created by this months Hero of the Lowcountry, Farrah Hoffmire. She is joined by activities and volunteer coordinator (and co-founder) Rae Weekes and a few HEARTists as well. Without them this program would not be where it’s at today. Farrah saw a need in the community for an inclusive experience for special needs adults. The HEARTists are always working on new collaborations in Charleston and most recently performed in an almost sold out show in Piccolo Spoleto.
Her passion for creating change in the special needs community in Charleston is inspiring and truly makes her a Hero of the Lowcountry.
On behalf of FOX 24 and Wendy’s, we were proud to present Farrah and HEART with the Hero of the Lowcountry award.
