Hilton Head Business Owner Arrested for Evading Nearly $13K in Taxes
BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC (WTAT-TV) — The South Carolina Department of Revenue says a Hilton Head business owner has been arrested for evading nearly $13K in taxes.
Officials say Robert Hawkins, president of The Vacation Company, was arrested Friday morning by South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators and charged with three counts of tax evasion.
Investigators say they found Hawkins, who is also a 55% shareholder in the company, knowing and willingly commingled corporate and personal expenses as ordinary and necessary business expenses during 2013 through 2015 tax years.
They say he evaded paying nearly $13,000 in South Carolina individual income tax.
Hawkins was booked at the Beaufort County Detention Center. If convicted, he could face fines up to $10,000 and five years in prison for each charge.
