Hootie Homegrown Concert will Collect School Supplies for Area Students
DANIEL ISLAND, SC (BRODIE HART, WTAT-TV) — Daniel Island will be packed over the next couple of days as the Hootie Homegrown Concert rolls into town!
Friday marks day one of the two-night concert series for local favorites, Hootie and the Blowfish.
The annual concert event also helps provide school supplies for area students heading back to the classroom.
School buses will be on hand as crews work to fill them up with donated supplies.
Unfortunately, both nights are already sold out, but you can still bring school supplies to the concert.
In addition to Friday night’s show, the band will hold ‘Hootie’s Homegrown Round-up’ at Burk High School on Saturday.
That event kicks off at 10:00 a.m. and runs until 1:00 p.m.
The band will be at that event to hand out school supplies and meet with Lowcountry students.
Free dental and eye exams will also be made available to pre-selected students during that event.
Darius Rucker says he is excited about helping kids get the supplies that they need. “Homegrown is such a good thing. We help so many kids with school supplies and things they need to go back to school. It’s a great event — we keep doing it every year and it keeps getting bigger and bigger. It’s really cool.”
This is the sixteenth year for Hootie’s Homegrown. However, it is important to note that Saturday’s school supply giveaway event us not open to the public.
Students from schools around the tri-county area were sent applications to attend. Still, thousands of kids are still expected at Burke High School for the event.
The Hootie Homegrown Concert at Volvo Car Stadium is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
