Ladson Residents Prepare for Flooding Ahead of Florence
LADSON, SC (CAROLINE BALCHUNAS, WTAT-TV) — People living in Ladson are bracing for flooding from Hurricane Florence. Something those living in College Park Estates say is a way of life.
The creek which runs through College Park Estates has been a huge issue of concern for neighbors living off Oxford Drive.
A home which sits right next to the creek is already sandbagged from the base to the windows. Others living in the area haven’t quite made the same preparations.
About a month ago, officials did clean out and remove trash and debris under the bridge.
Neighbors say it has helped during everyday rains, but do not think it will stand a chance if a big storm, like Florence, were to impact the area.
“I don’t think the storm is going to hit us, but we’ll get the rain from and will flood,” said one neighbor. “No doubt about it, we’ll flood.”
Folks who have lived in the neighborhood for decades say sandbags are really their only defense.
For now, the creek seems to be flowing pretty well. There was no trash or debris clogging up the water flow underneath the bridge.
