Lawsuit of Former Church Volunteer Points To Serious Red Flags
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WTAT-TV) – A new lawsuit against former children’s classroom volunteer at NewSpring Church in North Charleston, Jacop Hazlett, 28, is raising major red flags.
Hazlett was accused of molesting young boys while volunteering at the North Charleston church last November.
The new lawsuit says that he volunteered at two churches in North Carolina between 2011 and 2014. It says that he was asked to leave both positions because of “concerns about his behavior around children.”
The lawsuit claims that leaders at NewSpring did not contact either church for reference.
Hazlett is charged with fourteen counts of First and Third Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct With a Minor.
Police say that he has admitted to the assaults.
