NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WTAT-TV) – Former children’s classroom volunteer at NewSpring Church in North Charleston, Jacop Hazlett, 28, was arrested by the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office for first degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

Officials say Hazlett was at NewSpring for eight months.

Hazlett is accused of sexually abusing a three-year-old boy and now accused molesting children 14 times over a ninety day period.

Investigators say surveillance video from the church shows Jacob Hazlett fondling a three year old boy, even taking pictures of the child.

There are forty six cameras inside NewSpring, but only keep ninety days worth of footage

Church leaders say those cameras are monitored on two screens by a campus safety volunteer but according to an attorney it wasn’t enough to prevent an accused predator.

Police have only found charges against Hazlett in one case which doesn’t involve the victim in the civil lawsuit.

NewSpring says it has not been served with papers regarding a lawsuit. Church leaders say they don’t want to speculate or share and incorrect information adding that they are in regular communication with law enforcement.
