ST. GEORGE, SC (WTAT-TV) — A security scare on a school campus led to the arrest of a 74-year-old man.

St. George Police say Edward Hill brought a gun to St. George Middle School last Friday.

Detectives say Hill ran towards the father of a student as they began to drive away from the school.

Hill placed the gun inside his vehicle before walking into the school to confront a staff member.

Investigators say Hill was attempting to stop his ex-son-in-law from picking up his grandchild.

A police report also notes that Hill struck a parked car in the parking lot of the school when he arrived on campus, causing significant damage.

Hill now faces several charges including carrying a weapon on school property.
