Man Arrested for Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Child Under 11-Years-Old
BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WTAT-TV) — Jimmy Barry Christopher II, 34, was arrested this week following an investigation of sexual abuse of a minor under 11-years-old.
Detectives with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office says the alleged abuse took place over a nearly 2-year period, beginning in January of 2015.
Details about the criminal sexual conduct were not included in an effort to protect the identity of the victim.
Authorities say they located Christopher at a home on Whippoorwill Drive in Summerville on Wednesday.
When deputies attempted to make contact with the suspect, he barricaded himself inside the residence and used a 2×4 to hold the door shut.
After a three hour standoff, deputies were able to obtain a warrant to enter the home. Upon entry, officers located Christopher hiding under objects in a bedroom.
“These types of cases are among the most horrific things that we investigate. I am pleased that we were able to bring this case to a conclusion and pray that the victim will recover,” said Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis following the suspect’s capture.
Christopher was transported to the Hill Finklea Detention Center where he is awaiting a bond hearing which is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Thursday.
