Man Had Sawed-off Shotgun During Officer-Involved Shooting

LADSON, SC (WTAT-TV) — The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office has released new information about an officer-involved shooting which occurred over the weekend.

The incident happened on Fiddie Street in Ladson just before 9:00 a.m. Saturday.

Officials say a deputy was conducting a traffic stop when the driver exited the vehicle with a gun.

As a result, the deputy opened fire on the individual, according to Sheriff Al Cannon. The suspect ran off and later collapsed.

That driver has been identified as William Steeley of Summerville. He is charged with unlawful possession of a sawed-off shotgun.

Steeley was also wanted by Probation and Parole.

The passenger, Kenneth Harrelson of Bowman, SC is also charged with unlawful possession of a sawed-off shotgun.

We are told the deputy was not injured during this incident. He has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.
