Manning Couple Charged With Trafficking Methamphetamine
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WTAT-TV) — Officers with the North Charleston Police Department arrested a couple for trafficking methamphetamine following a traffic stop near the Tanger Outlets.
According to an incident report, officers observed a black Dodge Durango traveling around hotels and businesses for some time on North Arco Lane near West Montague Avenue.
After watching the vehicle drive around for about 45 minutes, the responding officer pulled up behind the vehicle to run its tag, but the driver attempted to speed away.
The driver, later identified as Courtney Louise Herlong of Manning, SC, eventually pulled the vehicle over and turned on the hazard lights.
The officer made contact with Herlong and the passenger, Kevin Shane Ardis, also of Manning. Both suspects gave conflicting reports about their activity.
Paperwork on the vehicle was requested and Ardis reached into the glovebox and began moving what appeared to be glass pipes around in an attempt to conceal the objects.
Because of the conflicting reports and suspicious activity, the officer requested a K-9 unit. Upon arrival, the K-9 officer alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle.
A complete search of the vehicle was conducted and resulted in officers finding 20 Grams of Meth, 3.5 grams of Marijuana, 9 prescription pills in an unmarked container, a pistol and over $100,000.00 cash inside a safe.
Both suspects were charged with trafficking methamphetamine along with several other drug-related charges. They were transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
