Meet Molly: The first pup trained to sniff out cheaters
CHARLESTON, SC (WTAT-TV) – Meet Molly, a four-year-old Springer Spaniel that sniffs out cheaters.
Fox Correspondent, Lauren Blanchard introduces this adorable pup that could be bringing huge changes to the world of sports.
Molly has been trained to search locker rooms, shoes and trash cans for performance enhancing drugs. She can detect steroids, tablets, powder and more.
Getting this job was not easy for this cute pup. She has undergone extensive training, like that of narcotics dogs. Molly lived with a Customs Officer for six months, completing daily tasks to gain the skills necessary for sniffing out illegal performance enhancement drugs.
Now that Molly has become the first anti-doping dog, she shows up at sporting events unannounced and does just what she’s trained to do. While her handlers can not confiscate any detected banned substances, they can turn the offender over to a Sports Federation Official for testing. Some anti-doping officials say her training has already paid off.
Several athletes that have been caught and tested positive for banned substances after a visit from the pup.
