CHARLESTON, SC (WTAT-TV) — A memorial will be held Saturday, February 10th for beloved Lowcountry civil rights activist Muhiyidin Moye.

The memorial is expected to begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Denmark Vesey Monument located on Bull Street in downtown Charleston.

Police say Moye was shot and killed earlier this week while riding his bike in New Orleans. No arrests have been made in connection to the shooting.

Family members set up a GoFundMe account in hopes of bringing Moye’s body back to the Lowcountry, and within just a few hours skyrocketed well past the original goal.

Today, donations sit at more than $30,000.

“The family is beyond grateful for the donations and kind words,” said Moye’s niece, Camille Weaver on the GoFundMe page. “I am asking that you still keep us in your prayers. We know Moye meant a lot to many, many people and we want them to be able to say their goodbyes.”
