Michael Slager Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison
CHARLESTON, SC (WTAT-TV) — U.S. District Judge David Norton has ruled that former North Charleston police officer, Michael Slager, committed second-degree murder when he shot an unarmed black motorist to death in April 2015.
Judge Norton also says Slager obstructed justice when he made false statements to state police after the shooting.
Following impact statements from the families of both Walter Scott and Michael Slager, Judge Norton sentenced the 36-year-old former police officer to 240 months in prison, which equates to 20 years, and no fine.
