Mt. Pleasant Schools on Lockdown Due to Threat on Social Media

UPDATE 10:20AM: Mount Pleasant Police say the lockdown has been lifted. “We are continuing to investigate the information from the Snapchat post but do not feel there is an imminent threat. Officers will continue to patrol the schools.”


MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WTAT-TV) — Several Mount Pleasant schools are currently on ‘Code Yellow’ lockdown due to an unverified threat received on social media.

Those schools include:

– Laing Middle School
– Jennie Moore Elementary
– Wando High School
– Cario Middle School
– Moultrie Middle School
– Charles Pinckney Elementary
– Carolina Park Elementary
– Laurel Hill Primary

Officials say the lockdown was put into place at 8:50 a.m. and Mount Pleasant Police made the announcement on social media at 9:12 a.m.

“Once the district was made aware of this situation, we immediately placed these schools on Code Yellow out of an abundance of caution,” the district said. “School Resource Officers are patrolling our campus in order to keep our students and staff safe.”

District officials say details of the threat are not known at this time. This is a developing story, please check back for updates.
