New Hearing for Teen Accused of Trying to Join ISIS
CHARLESTON, SC (WTAT-TV) — A Ladson teenager accused of trying to join ISIS will make an appearance in federal court Wednesday.
Zakaryia Abdin, 19, is expected to change his plea after originally pleading not guilty in May of last year.
Officials say Abdin provided documents to someone he thought was a member of the terrorist organization and was caught while trying to board a flight at Charleston International Airport.
According to documents, Abdin told federal agents he was willing to kill and willing to die. It also said he requested a hostage to be saved for him so that he could execute them in order to send a message to Americans.
Abdin was convicted on similar charges back ion 2016 but was out on parole.
He now faces 20 additional years in prison if convicted.
