New Tariffs Could Impact South Carolina
CHARLESTON, SC (WTAT-TV) — A trade war with China may soon impact South Carolina as tariffs are set to begin Friday.
President Trump says the tariffs will help protect U.S. businesses and push China to change its economic policy.
“China has retaliated by imposing tariffs on a lot of American exports to China” said William Hauk, a professor at the University of South Carolina. “A lot of those are in the agricultural sector, soybeans, beef.”
He went on to say, “The fear is that if this tit-for-tat back-and-forth escalates, then it becomes very bad.”
Those tariffs are expected to affect steel, aluminum, and agricultural industries in South Carolina.
