NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (FOX 24 NEWS NOW) — This Saturday we honor millions of veterans who have served our great nation – protecting the freedoms we hold so dear.

Veteran’s Day was first commemorated on November 11, 1919 as Armistice Day, the first anniversary of the end of World War I.

It later became an official holiday in 1938.

Military Appreciation Day’s Charleston Chapter is saying a simple ‘thank you’ to our local veterans with a day full of fishing, food and more.

Gene Morrison, chapter president of Charleston Military Appreciation Day stopped by FOX 24 News Now to share the details about this year’s event.
