Building a Multi-Million Dollar Football Stadium in Mt. Pleasant
MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WTAT-TV) — Mount Pleasant Mayor Linda Page gave her state of the town address a couple of days ago and it comes as no surprise to people living there that Mount Pleasant ranks as the tenth fastest growing city in the country.
With that comes a list of improvements slated for 2017, and among them is Carolina Park. A big part of that is the construction of a multi-million dollar single football stadium right across the street from Wando high school.
The stadium was endorsed by Mayor Page in 2014, but she called for it to be centrally located in the town. Some on city council like Will Haney and mayor pro tem Gary Santos were not so happy at first.
They would much rather refurbish the current stadium at Whipple and Mathis Ferry Roads where the new Lucy Beckham High School will be built.
In listening to both points of view, we spoke with both Gary Santos, Mount Pleasant’s Mayor Pro Tem and Jeff Borowy, COO with the Charleston County School District.
