Celebrate the Power of Written Word During Uplifting Festival
CHARLESTON, SC (FOX 24 NEWS NOW) – Poetry has the power to captivate, persuade, enlighten and get across a message that other forms of communication cannot.
A celebration of this expressive art form will take place right here in the Holy City.
The Free Verse Poetry Festival is the brainchild of Charleston’s poet laureate, Marcus Amaker, and is the city’s first poetry festival.
It’s mission is to uplift the community through public poetry installments, eclectic workshops and events spread throughout downtown and West Ashley.
School children will be able to join in on the fun thanks to a initiative where poets will go out into local schools and share the power of poetry with these young minds.
Free Verse Poetry Festival Details:
– October 17-24
– Multiple venues downtown, West Ashley
– Most events are free, except for Spoken Words and Bria the Poet + Poetic Justice
