NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (FOX 24 NEWS NOW) — We see the C-17s zoom in and out on a daily basis, sometimes even putting on a show, but it isn’t too often civilians get an inside look at the goings-on of Joint Base Charleston.

The 2018 Air and Space Expo was a huge hit, and this weekend, you’ll get another chance to see the base and its massive birds up close — after a little huffing and puffins, of course.

The 10th Annual Run the Runway 5k will take place Saturday, June 9th at 8:00 a.m.

Participants will have the chance to run past a fleet of C-17s, a rate opportunity for civilians who don’t have usual access to thr base.

The 3.1 mile course is USA track and field certified for any of our avid runners out there.

There will also be awards and prizes for top female and male competitors in each age category.

Visitors should bring plenty of water and sunscreen. Please do not bring pets, weapons, skateboards, roller blades, bikes, glass bottles or alcohol to this event.

The Rivers/Aviation gate will be open to the public beginning at 6:00 a.m. on race day. The Dorchester gate will only be available to DOD ID card holders.
