CHARLESTON, SC (FOX 24 NEWS NOW) — The connection between mental illness and creativity has had a long and storied past — Ernest Hemingway, Virginia Woolf, Robert Schumann, Michelangelo.

Experts have studied mental illness and the artistic temperament and the world has enjoyed the product of that torturous combination.

But few have painted a picture of what that chaos looks like on the inside.

The latest work by local artist Christina Bush Roman is being featured at City Gallery and it explores the disconnection between reality and mental illness and what that looks like.

Her exhibit is called ‘Disconnected’ and on display now through the beginning of August at the City Gallery at Joe Riley Waterfront Park.

She will be on hand Sunday, July 15th for a pop-up studio where you are invited to see the process and materials that go into making her artwork.

Official Schedule:

Saturdays/Sundays: 12:00 p.m. through 5:00 p.m.
Tuesdays-Fridays: 11:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m.
Artist Talk: Sunday, July 15th at 2:00 p.m.

The event continues through August 5th.
