CHARLESTON, SC (FOX 24 NEWS NOW) — Jay Van Raalte, Nina Murchison, Bradley Palles and Richard Hartnett make-up Charleston-based rock and blues band, Jump Castle Riot!

The group formed two years ago, and in that short time has reached wide popularity here in the Holy City.

“In early 2015 I walked into the Windjammer and heard Nina sing, and I just knew I had to start a project with her,” said Jay Van Raalte. “Along the way we picked up a killer rhythm section in Richard Hartnett and Bradley Palles.”

The collaboration between the band members is a remarkable chemistry, and it’s been proven. “(Our chemistry) has been described as effortless, and that’s a great compliment,” said Hartnett. “It does come easily, but we do put a lot of work into it to get it just right.”

In 2016, Jump Castle Riot claimed two Charleston City Paper music awards.

Although Raalte says they are a rock and roll band at heart, the hint of blues is no secret when they hit the stage. “Someone once told us we sounded like if Ella Fitzgerald fronted a band made up of The White Stripes and The Killers,” she said.

On September 27th, Jump Castle Riot will be playing at The Windjammer in celebration of their EP release, “Glitter and Gold.”
