CHARLESTON, SC (FOX 24 NEWS NOW) — Boykin Spaniels have made their mark as South Carolina’s official state dog and we celebrate our beloved canine.

In South Carolina, they are bred to be at the top of their hunting game while providing companionship and loyalty.

We chat with Chevis Haynie and Jennifer Strock to talk about a celebration coming up in honor of these loyal and energetic creatures.

The event is planned for September 2, 2017 and will take place at The Barrel. It will support Boykin Spaniel Rescue and Pet Helpers.

Inspiration behind the event is Chevis’ boykin, Chief. Chief went through heart surgery and the event gives back to the boykin community in Chief’s honor.
