She Survived One of the Most Devastating Storms to Hit the Caribbean in Recorded History
CHARLESTON, SC (FOX 24 NEWS NOW) — Hurricane Irma is but a mere memory for many of us here in the Lowcountry. But for thousands in the Caribbean, still living without electricity and running water, the wrath of both Irma and Hurricane Maria is still being felt two months later.
Among the islands decimated by Hurricane Maria is the beautiful St. Croix, left in ruins.
We spoke to a St. Croix resident and storm survivor, Tamla O’Brien, about the harrowing experience.
In the aftermath of the storm, O’Brien evacuated to Charleston with just two bags and her pets. Now, she is building a new life here in the Holy City.
