South Carolina Highway Patrol Talks on Drunk Driving Issues
CHARLESTON, SC (FOX 24 NEWS NOW) — Charleston is an area where alcohol is easily accessible and part of the social norm.
Lance Corporal Matt Southern, state trooper with South Carolina Highway Patrol, speaks on the issues of drunk driving in the Lowcountry.
In 2015, one-third of all traffic related deaths in the United States were due to impaired drivers.
South Carolina has the third highest rate of drunk driving-related deaths in the nation.
When asked how individuals can avoid drunk driving incidents, Trooper Southern stated, “Our suggestion from the highway patrol is if you choose to drink, just don’t get behind the way. Impairment begins with that first sip. So, if you’re going to drink, have that plan in place so you know you’re going to get home safely.”
