CHARLESTON, SC (FOX 24 NEWS NOW) — Leonardo DiCaprio, Miley Cyrus, Clint Eastwood… the list goes on and on. What stitches all these stars together? They wear Tom Cridland.

It’s a clothing line designed to be sustainable and last decades.

Tom Cridland is the designer and he has been traveling the country previewing his clothing line, making a special stop here in Charleston.

“Charleston is one of our biggest customer bases, and I’ve never been here so it really made sense for us to stop here,” he said.

Sustainable fashion aims at stopping fast fashion and keep people from filling up their wardrobe with clothes that wear out after about a year. “Most of the clothing we wear doesn’t really change that much. It’s a plain t-shirt, a plain sweatshirt or pants, and we want to make it as well as possible so that it lasts as long as possible,” he said. “In fact, we actually guarantee our clothing to last for 30 years.”

Cridland is so sure of his clothing lines sustainability, he says if anything happens to your clothing within 3 decades, they’ll repair or replace it free of charge.

He says sustainable fashion makes you look better, saves you money in terms of cost per wear, and it stops clothing from ending up in a landfill.

When is the last time you went out shopping? You probably noticed the paper thin clothing at extremely high prices. “Unfortunately manufacturing has moved away from Europe and the United States where clothing is made so well. Now it has gone to places where the materials are bad and the workers are not paid enough, and this is a situation that really needs to stop,” he explained. “I really think sustainable fashion is the answer to this problem.”

Part of Tom’s collection includes plain, solid color sweatshirts which are heavy in good quality material. “This sweatshirt is made in Italy by a team of craftsmen who have been making clothing since 1964,” he said. “All of the sleeve seams are double reinforced and stitched they are stitched by hand.” They are made out of cotton which has been sourced from Biella.

The sweatshirt has already been shown to last for 30 years. “These guys have been making clothes since 1964. We decided on 30 with these people.”
