Officials Respond to Reported Drowning on Isle of Palms
ISLE OF PALMS, SC (BRODIE HART, WTAT-TV) — Officials responded to reports of a drowning in the area of Ocean Boulevard on the Isle of Palms just before 3:30 a.m. Friday morning.
Police say they received two separate calls early in the morning for a reported drowning right in front of Coconut Joe’s restaurant, which was shut down for more than an hour during the investigation.
Witnesses say police were performing CPR on someone right along the beach, and that it was not the quiet morning walk they expected. “They were all yelling and we thought they were just having a good time and then all of a sudden a cop came up behind us and ran down to them and then two more cop cars came down on the beach and they started giving them CPR and pumping his chest,” said witness Megan Weaver.
At this point we do not yet have an update on the condition of that person. Isle of Palms police, fire and EMS were all on the scene.
We also saw a white limousine parked along the road.
Around seven officers were involved in the search during the reported drowning and used the beach access beside Coconut Joe’s.
The scene was cleared around 5:00 a.m.
We have reached out to police for more information on the condition of that person they were performing CPR on. We will let you know as soon as we get that information.
