Police Searching for West Ashley Greenway Assault Suspect

WEST ASHLEY, SC (TIM RENAUD, WTAT-TV) — Officials say two women were assaulted within minutes of each other on the West Ashley Greenway.

Charleston Police say the random and unprovoked attacks happened around 11:00 a.m. Wednesday near Market Drive.

They say the victims were using the greenway for exercise in opposite directions when the assaults occurred.

According to Police, the suspect rode his bicycle up to the first victim, punched her arm and threw an object at her.

They say he then approached the second victim on foot and struck her in her face causing her to fall to the ground.

A witness then yelled at the suspect, but they left the scene on the bicycle heading towards Savannah Highway.

The suspect was described as a black male, 5’10”-6’00” tall, 180-200 pounds and believed to be in his late 20’s to early 40’s.

He was wearing a black shirt, black pants and a green and white striped hat when there attacks occurred.

The suspect was believed to be riding on a green, blue or aqua-in-color bicycle.
