President Trump to Visit Boeing Today
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (BRODIE HART, WTAT-TV) — Activity is already underway over a Boeing ahead of President Donald Trump’s first visit since winning the white house.
The President will be attending the unveiling of Boeing’s latest version of its 787 Dreamliner.
Now the President has not at all shied away from criticizing Boeing. He did it during his campaign for president and after the election.
During a campaign rally in the Lowcountry he hinted that Boeing may be pulling out of South Carolina because they are building a manufacturing plant in China.
He also tweeted back in December that the new Air Force One’s costs were out of control and that he would cancel the order.
Fast forward to last month and he let Boeing’s CEO listen in on calls with the Pentagon. So from a business perspective, Boeing stands a lot to gain from this visit and the President will probably feel like he is in familiar territory.
“Whether it’s auto, the bankers or folks working in the automotive industry, he is comfortable in this environment. He’s a business person so I think it will be good for him to come down and help celebrate not just with Boeing but with the Lowcountry on this new plane,” said Gibbs Knotts, political science chair at the College of Charleston.
Governor Henry McMaster will also be here at Boeing today and he was an early supporter of President Trump during his campaign.
Keep in mind the President is making this visit to Boeing today on the invitation of Boeing. So there are some possible political and business motives.
Donald Trump is expected to land here on Air Force One around noon today.
