SCE&G Appealing to Higher Court on Temporary Rate Cuts
COLUMBIA, SC (WTAT-TV) — Earlier this week, a federal judge ruled a temporary rate cut for SCE&G customers could move forward.
That 15% reduction officially began for many customers across the state on Tuesday.
But now the utility is appealing to a higher court to block the rate reduction.
Motions were filed asking for an emergency order to halt that cut. SCE&G argues the reduction will harm the utilities financial future.
The cut could offset the so-called nuclear charge that was set to take effect on August 7th billing cycle.
More than 700,000 power customers in the state have been affected.
The issue will go before a panel of judges next Wednesday.
