Shelters to Open for Hurricane Florence
CHARLESTON, SC (WTAT-TV) — Emergency shelters will open Tuesday, September 11th as mandatory evacuations begin along the South Carolina coast ahead of Hurricane Florence.
Please be sure to bring bedding, personal hygiene items, food, water, flashlights, medications and other necessities you may need.
• Berkeley Middle School
• Cane Bay High School- This a pet-friendly location. Citizens must stay with their pets during their time at the shelter. Pet owners are NOT allowed to drop-off their pets at the shelters.
• Goose Creek High School- This is the primary location for Charleston County residents. Transportation to this shelter will be arranged for Charleston County citizens.
• St. Stephen Elementary
• Macedonia Middle School
• Cross High School
(will open at noon Tuesday)
• Summerville High School
• Dubose Middle School – This will be a pet friendly shelter.
• Woodland High School
• St. George Middle School
Storm shelters will NOT open in Charleston County due to Hurricane Florence’s anticipated category 3 winds.
Charleston County residents should go to Goose Creek High School. If that shelter fills, residents will then seek shelter in Dorchester and Orangeburg Counties.
Additional shelters in Berkeley and Dorchester Counties will open based on need.
If you do not have transportation to a shelter, buses will be provided to take you from the following pick-up points to the nearest available shelter.

Pet-friendly shelters will only accept crated, small, domesticated animals. At least one family member must remain on premise.
Residents who would like to utilize the pet shelter will be responsible for bringing all pet supplies including, but not limited to the below:
Water & Food Bowls
Sheet or Blanket to cover Kennel
Litter and Litter Box
Medication (if needed)
Training Pads for kennel
