Shooting Leaves 3 Dead, 9-Year-old Airlifted to MUSC
RUFFIN, SC (MEGAN RIVERS, WTAT-TV) — The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office says three people are dead and a fourth has been taken to a hospital in what is being treated as a homicide.
Right now a 9-year-old girl is being treated at MUSC. We are told she was brought to the hospital after being shot in the leg.
At last check, she was listed in stable condition.
Officials confirm two adults and a 13-year-old boy were shot and killed in a barrage of bullets Tuesday afternoon in the small town of Ruffin on Lowcountry Highway.
Investigators have not yet released the names of the victims, but say the children appeared to be the grandchildren of the couple that was killed.
Sheriff’s deputies say they have no suspects at this time and neighbors in this small community say that they’re still in shock. “We don’t have a particular person in mind, however this is very, very early on this investigation and we are working several leads,” said Sheriff R. A. Strickland.
“It will probably take a couple days to really sink in. Anything this tragic is really devastating in your mind,” said neighbor Ken Hendricks. “I mean it’s hard and we probably won’t sleep very good tonight because of this. I mean this was half a block from where I’m living.”
Sheriff Strickland said that possible narcotics were also found in the home. SLED is also investigating with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Strickland also said the 9-year-old who is at MUSC is being guarded by law enforcement.
