Shots Fired at Goose Creek Home with Kids Inside
GOOSE CREEK, SC (ANGELA BROWN, WTAT-TV) — A mother in Berkeley County said she woke up terrified after bullets ran through her home early Monday morning.
She didn’t want to appear on camera, but Virginia showed us where a bullet shot through the window and into her bedroom.
The Goose Creek mother was asleep inside with her kids when the incident occurred. No one was hurt, and for that, she is grateful.
Her neighbors also heard the gunfire and say this was not the first time.
“I heard those gunshots going off at night, maybe it’s not where my family it, but there could be children around,” said Hector Rodriguez, who lives near Virginia.
Rodriguez says he heard gunfire twice that night. The first was at 11:00 p.m. and the next followed at around two or three in the morning.
He says he’s heard random gunfire a lot over the past few months. He says things became quiet around Christmas, but it started back up about two weeks ago.
“Two months before, I think it was just about every week that we heard gunshot going out,” he said.
We spoke with Mike Cochran of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office about crime in the Samantha Estates neighborhood and if the gunfire is related.
“It is not honest people shooting guns in the road,” he said. “As a general rule, most people don’t do that in the middle of the night.”
He went on to say: “A lot of times what you are getting is connected to illegal activity and they are sending a message.”
Cochran says often times people will not share information about these incidents which makes it more difficult to make any arrests.
