Sister of Dylann Roof Arrested for Bringing Weapons, Drugs to School
COLUMBIA, SC (WTAT-TV) — While students across the nation spent a portion of Wednesday morning demonstrating against gun violence and guns in schools, the sister of Emanuel AME gunman, Dylann Roof, was arrested for bringing weapons to her high school campus.
Police say 18-year-old Morgan Roof brought a knife, pepper spray and marijuana to AC Flora High School in Columbia.
Investigators also say Roof posted a hateful Snapchat message which alarmed fellow students, according to the Associated Press. She was not charged for those messages.
In a letter to parents, the school’s principal, Susan Childs spoke about the student-led walkout and the incident involving Roof. “In an isolated incident yesterday, administration was notified that there was possibly a weapon on campus. Through diligent work from the Assistant Principals and the School Resource Officers, an unloaded weapon was recovered.”
She also said discipline for the student would follow the districts code of conduct.
A judge set Roof’s bond at $5,000. She now faces two charges for carrying weapons on school property and is not allowed to return to the school.
