SLED Investigating After Roof Collapses at Fatal House Fire
COLLETON COUNTY, SC (BRODIE HART, WTAT-TV) — Officials were called to the scene of a house fire on the 1000 block of Jerusalem Road in Colleton County early Monday morning where at least one person was killed.
Colleton County Fire Rescue officials say the fire began around 6:00 a.m.
We learned that a first responder had to go and get a volunteer fire truck and return to the scene, but by the time they arrived heavy flames had already caused the roof to collapse.
Unfortunately, we are told by Colleton County fire officials that a woman, believed to be an elderly woman who lived alone at that home, was killed as a result of the incident.
Crews were eventually able to extinguish the flames but remained on the scene for several hours working on several hot spots.
SLED has also been called in to investigate as per standard procedure following a fatal fire.
This is a developing story. We will provide updates at they become available.
